Many, many things define the feel of a wedding day. From the venue, to the formality of the wedding party clothes, to even the formality of the FLOWERS, it all works together to create a day that flows effortlessly from one thing to the next. I know it seems strange to think about, but flowers (and how they are arranged) certainly give off a degree of formality and have the ability to alter the feel of your wedding in a very noticeable way.
For example, a bouquet like this would look more formal...
...and one like this is more casual!
See the difference? The top bouquet looks more styled, and the combination of roses and anemones give it a more formal, dressy appearance. The bottom bouquet, while still appropriately styled for a wedding, leans more toward the freshly picked and gathered look with a more casual appearance.
Say you are going for a romantic, soft, whimsical feeling wedding day. In that case, neither of the two bouquets above convey quite what you are looking for...but something like this one does.
The peonies add a soft, romantic feel, and the sprigs of lavender give the whimsy that helps the arrangement feel less rigid.
A southern garden wedding might have a bouquet like the one below, with lots of leafy greenery and soft colors.
